Vicentina Route

Are you looking for an adventure in nature? The Vicentine Route, or Rota Vicentina in Portuguese, is a fascinating challenge for hiking enthusiasts. This route stretches approximately 400 kilometers through southern Portugal, traversing some of the most spectacular and well-preserved coastlines on the continent.

Composed of two main trails and several circular routes, the Vicentine Route offers stunning landscapes, from rugged cliffs to extensive white sand beaches and historic villages. An itinerary that combines nature, culture, and adventure.

The Historic Path of the Vicentine Route

The Historical Way is the main route of the Vicentina Route. With a total of 230 km, it stretches from Santiago do Cacém to Cape San Vicente, at the southern tip of the country. This itinerary consists of 12 stages and traverses forest paths, valleys, mountains, and villages.

This is a versatile route that can be done on foot or by bike, ideal for those seeking an authentic experience in nature. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to learn about local culture and taste Portuguese cuisine.

The Fishermen's Path

The Fishermen's Trail, in Portuguese Trilho dos Pescadores, is an impressive route that runs along 125 kilometers by the sea, between Porto Covo and Cape San Vicente. Although it is physically demanding, the natural beauty you will find makes every step worthwhile.

Divided into five stages and with several complementary routes, this trail crosses the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park and the Vicentine Coast, a protected area due to its rich biodiversity and unique landscapes. It is ideal for those looking to enjoy hiking with sea views.

Circular stages of the Vicentine Route

In addition to the main routes, the Vicentina Route offers several circular routes that allow you to discover wonderful natural spaces, both coastal and inland, in fewer kilometers. Some of the most notable are:

  • Almograve Dunes (8 km). A coastal trail that borders the sandy beaches of Brejo Largo.
  • Hortas de São Luís (4 km). Discover the gardens, farms, and yards of the village of Sao Luis, in the interior of Odemira.
  • Route from Troviscais to Mira (11 km). Stroll alongside the calm waters of the Mira River and observe the local birds in this section of the Historic Path.
  • Odeceixe Beach (15 km). Explore the mouth of the Seixe River and Odeceixe beach.
  • Endiabrada and hidden lakes (7 km). A walk through the forests of the Serra de Espinhaço de Cão and the charming interior of Bordeira.
  • Cerros da Carrapateira (13 km). The best route to enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic from the top of the hills.
