We detail 8 sustainable plans without complications. Because simple things hide true luxury:
Route along the Carrilet greenway
Visit the Mas Eusebi milk farm
Excursion collecting plastic through les Gavarres
Enjoy the walk along the coastal path
Shop at local and craft markets
Literary route of the viewpoints of Sant Feliu de Guíxols
Discover the ceramics of l'Empordà
Walk through the fields of sunflowers, apples and rice plantations
On to the bikes! If you are looking for a sustainable family plan, sign up for a bike tour along the Carrilet greenway. This tour is one of the best options to have fun playing sports, in contact with nature and forget about the screens. We suggest you walk the section from Santa Cristina d'Aro to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. This stage is one of the most special, the route runs on the old train path, it is a very flat route, ideal to go with children.
Visiting a farm with your children is always a good idea. The Eusebi family will introduce you to their cows, which have their own names, and will give you a guided tour. A sustainable and local project, where you can try fresh milk recently extracted from a cow. Mas Eusebi is located in Fonteta, a bucolic village in the interior of l'Empordà known for its recuit de drap (rag cottage cheese), a type of fresh cheese wrapped in a cloth, which is eaten with sugar or honey. Do not forget to lose yourself in its cobbled streets!
Vallpresona beach is a beautiful unspoiled cove perfect for snorkeling and observing its seabed. Can you think of a better plan to disconnect from the city? If you prefer, you can also go for a walk through the forests of the Massissos de les Gavarres, a Protected Natural Area full of oaks and cork oaks on the hills of this massif. Take the signposted route to the Mare de Déu dels Àngels sanctuary (485 metres), from which you get fabulous views of the entire complex. Going down you reach the beautiful little town of Madremanya, which with Monells and Millars constitute authentic urban jewels that you cannot miss. On your expedition, do not forget to bring some large bags, shovels or a rake and gloves. Remember that the objective of this sustainable plan with children on the Costa Brava is to collect non-biodegradable waste that you can then deposit at a recycling point.
Hiking is one of the best sustainable activities for kids. The coastal path will allow you to admire the cliffs and corners of the virgin beaches that surround it. Do not forget to bring your swimsuit and sun cream in your backpack, surely the children will want to enjoy a swim in one of its coves. Don't know which one? Find all our proposals in the Local Guide.
Knowing the markets of the towns in the area is a way to support local producers and promote sustainable development. There are many and in the summer months even more! The local market of Santa Cristina d'Aro is on Saturdays in the Plaça del Mercat with local products.
A beautiful route with spectacular views in recognition of the traditionally feminine trades: such as the menders, the women, wives or daughters of fishermen who were in charge of sewing the fishing nets. The first route starts from the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Town Hall and ends at the Sant Elm viewpoint. A place with spectacular views. An easy route of less than 3 km that you can also do with the Tourist Train. A fun way that your children will surely love.
Another way to support the local economy is to discover local crafts. A very precious art that you can get to know in more detail through the experiences offered by the different pottery houses. Kids will love getting their hands dirty with mud and trying out the wheel. In Cerámica Ley they offer workshops where you can make your own pieces, and take your own creation with you! A good memory of family vacations.
Around the small town of Fontanilles, you will find fields of sunflowers, apple trees and rice plantations perfect for walking or cycling. You can make a stop and taste 100% natural cider made with Empordà apples at the Mooma restaurant. Its cider, juices and jams are km 0, since all the raw material comes from our own plantations located in Palau-Sator.
So that's the end of the 8 sustainable plans with children in the Baix Empordà for you to fill your backpack with green experiences with your family. See you in our next blog article! And don't forget that if you don't have a bike, at wecamp Santa Cristina we have bikes and e-bikes for the whole family.
